My feeling was I got a touch - Carey on overturned decision.

Australian wicketkeeper Alex Carey revealed he believed he had nicked the ball when he was given not out on DRS during day one of the third Ashes Test against the English.

Having been given a life on 72, Carey proceeded to score a fine 106 to help the home side finish on 326-8 at the end of play in the Adelaide Oval.

The Key Moment

Australia were 245 for 6 when Carey looked to play a cut to the bowling of Josh Tongue.

The England team lodged a strong appeal, believing they had detected an nick, but on-field official Ahsan Raza was unmoved.

After skipper Ben Stokes referred the decision, the technology examined by third umpire Chris Gaffaney displayed a spike but this came prior to the ball had reached the bat.

Gaffaney also said he believed there was a clearance between bat and ball.

As a result, Carey was allowed to continue.

"I thought there was a feather or some sort of noise when it passed the bat," commented Carey.

"If I was given out I think I would have reviewed it, probably not confidently. There was a definite noise."

Ongoing Scrutiny

There has been debate about 'the Snickometer' during the series after a number of inconclusive calls.

England's bowling coach David Saker suggested the touring side may take this latest incident further with the match official Jeff Crowe.

"We haven't acted yet, but following today's events, that could change," Saker said.

"There have been concerns about it for the whole series. It's disappointing that this is a post-play discussion. That's where we are."

Personal Milestone

His hundred was his first in Ashes cricket.

It was also an poignant moment for Carey, whose dad died in recent months. His spouse was crying in the crowd as the batter marked the occasion by pointing to the heavens.

"To make a hundred here in front of home fans and family was special," said Carey.

"I guess you know as well why I was looking to the heavens. I'm trying not to tear up. But, no, it was great."

History of Controversy

This isn't Carey's first brush with Ashes drama.

He was the keeper who notoriously stumped Jonny Bairstow at Lord's Cricket Ground in the 2023 Ashes series, resulting in a febrile final day.

On his reprieve he added: "Snicko obviously didn't line up. It is just the way cricket goes - sometimes you have a bit of luck."

"I might have gotten away with one."
